Nzatu Food Group: Ten Months of Agroforestry Progress in Zambia

We’ve been busy bees at Nzatu Food Group. Over the last year, we have been developing our agroforestry model in Namwala, Zambia. From successfully hitting groundwater with a borehole, setting up drip irrigation, installing shelters, drying sheds, planting moringa, mukangala, corn, nitrogen-fixing legumes, and seeing positive results from well-colonized beehives, we are now expanding our operations to 25 hectares!

All of this in 10 months!

But there’s more:

Our activities have provided professional working conditions, toilets, clean water (and storage), solar electricity, and 100% indigenous employment (with 8 out of 14 employees being women).

Thanks to the support of the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute and Dr. Kafula Chisanga, we have initiated official, independent monitoring and verification of our intervention and baseline carbon stock measurement. Our technology partners Restor, TraceX Technologies, and Synature are ready to move with us on DMRV monitoring and compliance.

We are just getting started, laying the groundwork for a robust Community Forest Management Protocol to involve more of the 4000 BaIla and Maala tribal community leaders and members to join our conscious, regenerative, productive forest movement.
