Addressing Food Security: How Regenerative Agriculture Can Feed More People with Existing Resources

How do we feed more people with the food we already grow? This critical question is explored in the latest “Farms. Food. Future.” podcast from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), featuring Gwen Jones, Co-Founder of Nzatu Food Group. Gwen shares insights into how regenerative agriculture can help solve global food security challenges.

Gwen and her team at Nzatu are building a model that delivers a triple win:

  • Regenerating ecosystems: This is achieved through initiatives like beekeeping, agroforestry, and the cultivation of indigenous grains such as millet and sorghum.

  • Boosting farmer incomes: For example, honey production can bring up to 20 times the return of traditional crops like corn.

  • Protecting climate and wildlife: Their work reduces deforestation and helps restore cultural connections to biodiversity.

Nzatu’s work demonstrates that food security is not solely about producing more. Instead, it emphasizes utilizing what we already grow more efficiently, empowering farmers, and strengthening communities through sustainable practices.

Listen here: Tune into the episode and join the conversation on how regenerative practices can transform global food systems.
