Growing Food, Skills and Opportunity in Namwala

Trees for People continues to make progress in Namwala, Zambia, with abundant harvests of cowpeas and red and white sorghum. The integrated farm chickens are being cared for by farm workers, who will eventually take them home to support their families.

The orchards are also developing well, with orange, banana and papaya trees growing strongly and preparing to bear fruit.

A recent event celebrated the work being carried out on the ground and the support of AFRO MED ASSOCIATION APS-ETS and the LAC Foundation. Funds raised through the Venice and Milan Marathons helped provide beekeeping and harvesting kits, along with training in honey, wax, moringa harvesting and biochar production.

Special thanks go to Kafula Chisanga of Zambia Agriculture for sharing knowledge on biochar preparation, and to Ngoshe, the project’s carpenter, for contributing practical skills and support to the community.

The day concluded with a traditional farm lunch prepared with local products, reflecting the spirit of growing food, skills and opportunity together.
